We are excited to once again be offering custom orthotics as we have partnered with Vancouver based Kiwi Orthotics! They are a world-class leading company providing the highest quality orthotics in the industry with the best service. When asked why should I have custom orthotics? We often reply, “Do you have the same prescription in your glasses as your neighbour or friend?” No, of course not because we are all different. The same goes for your feet. We all have different sizes, shapes, and arch sizes for our feet. Yet we are given shoes that try to accommodate everyone, which just isn’t possible. Having custom orthotics is similar to having that individual lens prescription, allowing you the most in comfort and performance. Whether you are a firefighter or police officer in heavy boots, a nurse on your feet all day, or a weekend warrior wanting to get the most out of your games or hikes, we could all benefit from having a set of custom orthotics in our shoes.
Kiwi Orthotics offers a wide variety of “Activity Based” orthotics. The three most common and popular options that we utilize are walking, general sport, and industrial. The walking pair is for daily use, the general sport is designed to fit in your running shoes for workouts or hikes, and industrial is for boots where you put a lot of load through your feet. There are a plethora of other options available including for diabetics, dress shoes, and pediatric, but those three aforementioned are the most commonly used.
The 3D computer-aided design and manufacturing at Kiwi Orthotics is second to none. We have had the opportunity to walk through their facility to learn and appreciate how much effort goes into the creation of each pair of custom orthotics. We use a scanner in our office at Willoughby Family Chiropractic that is attached to an iPad to obtain a very accurate 3D scan of your foot, which is uploaded and sent to the company for a quick and seamless transition to the manufacturing process. Each orthotic is 100% custom-made to fit the patient’s feet. The turnaround time from the scan to delivery of the orthotics is 5 business days. There is even a 6 month adjustment period where we can change fit, function, and/or comfort at no additional charge.
The scanning and manufacturing technique is also covered by extended health benefits packages. If you have any questions or are interested in getting your own pair of custom orthotics, please ask any of us at Willoughby Family Chiropractic and we will be happy to help you.
