Why Massage Therapy and Chiropractic Care Go Hand-in-Hand

As a Chiropractor at Willoughby Family Chiropractic in Langley, it is my passion to help serve patients in the Lower Mainland and throughout the Fraser Valley.

Along with my chiropractic care, our office also offers the added benefits of our RMT professionals, delivering massages that range from therapeutic to relaxing – and everything in-between!

These two treatments truly go hand-in-hand, providing a holistic approach that encourages the body to heal from within, managing and working to eliminate aches and pains that come from the various rigors of life, as well as unforeseen accidents.

Understanding the Differences of Chiropractic Care and Massage Therapy

As posted on our website, here are the basic differences:

The word “chiropractic” comes from ancient Greek and means “done by hand.” Chiropractors use their hands to administer specific adjustments to the joints of the body to remove subluxations and to restore proper motion to the joints.”

“Massage Therapy is effectively used to treat a wide range of medical conditions including occupational and posture related problems, accident related injuries, sports injuries, stress reduction, pregnancy related issues, headaches, circulatory/lymph and nerve conditions.”

In layman’s terms – chiropractic care will help alleviate “sharp pains”, while massage can address “dull pain”, and by combining the two – you are truly optimizing your care.

The Benefit of Combining Chiropractic Care and RMT Treatments

Massage Therapy can set you up for better success with your chiropractic care by relaxing tight muscles prior to receiving a chiropractic treatment. This can make it much easier to access joints that need adjusting and simply won’t “move” due to muscle tension.

In addition, combining these two treatments also helps in reverse. Having a massage treatment directly after a chiropractic treatment can help to relieve pressure around your spinal joints, working out tight muscles that have possibly responded to an adjustment and simply need some added nudging to maintain your alignment – which now may feel “wrong” to the body after having been misaligned for however long.

Whether you are seeking injury recovery, stress relief or looking to solve your chronic neck or back pain – Massage Therapy and Chiropractic Care work wonderfully together, and I would love to introduce you to a Therapist that can work in tandem with my Chiropractic services in Langley.
