How Chiropractic Care Can Help with Sports Injuries

As someone who has always had a passion for athletics, I grew up playing a variety of different sports, finally bringing my focus to hockey and spending four years playing in the Western Hockey League for the Vancouver Giants, Regina Pats, and Seattle Thunderbirds.

Throughout my sports career, I had regular visits with a sports chiropractor for recover, maintenance and mobility improvements. And after a series of concussions, I became increasingly aware of the benefits that chiropractic care can provide – treating the cause of the problem rather than just the symptom itself.

Which brought me to the passion that I have chosen as a career, and why I want to share with you ‘How Chiropractic Care Can Help with Sports Injuries’!

The Reality of Sports Injuries in Canada

Statistics Canada reported in 2010, that 66% of adolescent injuries were due to sports, and among adults – a combination of sports and work were the cause of 47% of their overall injuries.

How Do Sports Injuries Happen?

Although sports are an excellent outlet for exercise, physical and mental development, discipline and other such positive things, there is also risk involved due to excessive training, poor training posture, faulty equipment – and more.

In addition, improper motion, muscle growth or weakness can be the cause for concerns in the knees, elbows, shoulders and spine, due to hyperextension or hyper flexion, among other things.

How Can Chiropractic Treatments Help?

As spine, muscle and nervous system experts, chiropractic care is an excellent way to ideally prevent, manage or recover from sports-related injuries.

We are trained to assess, diagnose and manage such injuries, finding the core concerns, address pain and dysfunction, and implement a treatment plan to correct these concerns.

Treatments may include: joint manipulation and mobilization, soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation, as well as at-home exercise and diet recommendations for optimal healing

Prevention is key, but sometimes recovery is needed.
